Friday, Saturday, Someday: The Day That Never Comes

“Someday, I’m going to have like a gazillion dollars. And I’m going to live in a castle. And I’m going to have my own army. Just like if I was the King of England.”

“That would be so cool. Okay how’s this one? Someday I’m going to live in a mansion soooo big that it’s going to have its own theme park in it. And I’m going to ride roller coasters all day. And eat cotton candy.”

Remember doing that when you were younger? Seeing who could come up with the coolest fantasy life. Some adults still do it. But of course their expectations are a lot lower now. Maybe you’re one of them.

A few days ago I went out to lunch with a couple friends from high school. And one of them was telling us how he’s going to open an online business “someday”. Sound familiar?

Now when I heard that I was confused. The sad thing is everybody else knew exactly what he meant.

When is “someday”? It certainly isn’t one of the days of the week. I know people who have been talking about “someday” for years and they still haven’t done a thing. Is there one “someday” every 10 years?

The truth is that there is no “someday”. All it is is a made up fantasy world to make you feel good about yourself. The same one you talked about when you were a little kid.

The 2% of people in the world who are successful don’t use the word “someday”. It’s not part of their vocabulary. The 2%ers take action now. They don’t wait around for “someday”.

What are you waiting till “someday” to do? Start a business? Visit another country? Run a marathon? Whatever it may be start taking action now.

Have you really started an online business? Or are you still playing around with adsense and affiliate programs? The real question is are you going to take action now or are you going to do it “someday”?

I have notice that too, how people always say some day. I on the other hand try and set a date by which I want to have certain goals accomplished by. I find it works much better.

I totally agree. I need to take myself out of the someday mentality as well. It’s hard, but it’ll be worth it.

It’s human nature - it’s easier to talk about doing something than to actually do it. Ben’s got a good point - if you have a deadline to work towards, it keeps you focused, otherwise there’ll always be some reason to procrastinate.

A recent post of mine provoked comments that surprised me, as there seem to be blogs writing about making money online, who are not actively marketing. This really stunned me. How are they making money if they aren’t marketing anything? You’ve got to have some serious traffic to make a lot from advertising of any description.

I know you visit my site sometimes - thanks - dunno whether or not you’ve read my post on this topic Making Money Online and Blogging 1 & 2

Liked your blog - thought provoking, very challenging. Thanks for sharing your brilliant thoughts.

I used to think that I would get to meet famous people and make enough to help others someday!
Then one day a homeless person asked me for a dollar for some food (I almost walked past thinking “someday I’ll really be able to help”! only when I realized that we were in front of the grocery store did I realize this was a real cry for help right now!
That was when I took her inside the store and bought her a bag of groceries. She left the store thanking me over and over for helping to feed her children that night.
a couple of years later , I was talking to a friend about getting a camera that I couldn’t quite afford. when this lady that was there spoke up and said, “I’d like to help you”.
With that , she slipped a $100.00 bill into may shirt pocket and turned and left.
It was only then that I realized that it was the lady that I had helped a couple of years before!
Let your someday happen now!

It is a lot easier to talk about what you want to do than it is to actually do it! For years I had all kinds of plans, but it took an unexpected divorce to kick me into getting these things going for myself. Now I wonder what took me so long!

Where there’s a will there’s a way!!! Having a plan of action really does help though. It seems like you can have a million ‘great ideas’ about things to do to ‘get rich quick’, but they just don’t seem to work out for you… sometimes it seem like it’s just ‘not in the cards’ for you.

But with some research and a lot of hard work… meaning there is NO GET RICH QUICK SCHEME that actually WORKS… it takes research and a LOT of HARD WORK… but you CAN come up with a good idea that makes sense and cents!!!

So why wait for your ’someday’… start TODAY and make someday as soon as possible. Taking action NOW and just doing it is the best way to take your first step in the right direction.

I’m one of those people who irritate the hell out of people who say “someday”. When I press for an exact time frame and they can’t give anything, I say, “It will never happen.” Chances are they get mad, but later on they would get back to me to thank me if they ever did get around to thinking of putting a date on “someday”.
