I just got done listening to an excellent interview Willie Crawford did with my friend Tom Brownsword. Willie was interviewing him about computer and internet security. I picked up quite a few tips on how to make my blog more secure.
Tom has been working for 15 years in the computer security field so he really knows his stuff.
He’s having a 24 hour special tomorrow on the call and a video training series on how to better secure your wordpress blog. But it’s only for people who are on his blog announcement list. I don’t get any money for recommending this to you it’s just something that’s helped me out and something most people overlook.
Regardless of whether you’re considering taking advantage of his special or not you should probably sign up for his blog announcement list. He offers some great security tips there. As the saying goes… an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure.

Many thanks for the kind post.
I’ve had to move things back a bit… Totally my fault.
While “taking action” is important and I know that I’m never going to get it “perfect”, there is a certain quality standard that I demand of myself — and while the interview and transcript are ready, there are still a few loose ends that need to be tied up in order to make this a quality experience for everybody.
So keep watching my blog; I’ll post updates there (and things should be more than ready by next Tuesday).

Prevention is the best cure.
I remember years ago, never bothered to use virus scanners or any other security measures on my own PC. Then I was hit with a nasty virus. I lost my entire hard drive. Besides this, it tooks me months to get my PC back to its original configuration. It was a mess.
Today I don’t do anything without ensuring my virus checker is running, and has the latest updates. I use an application to keep me safe while surfing as well.
Spending $100 on the initial purchase and then $20 or so yearly to stay current is well worth the cost.
The information on my PC is worth more than that, as is my time.

Yup, I run many sites on many different platforms and most people would be shocked to know how easy it is to infiltrate old or unsupported versions. An ounce of protection is truly worth a pound of cure.
Thanks for this, probably my biggest worry is protection with Wordpress. Feels more susceptible than when I was at Blogger.
